ABOUT US:

The Town Clerk’s Office serves as Danbury’s keeper of the records for all documents that pertain to the City of Danbury. The Town Clerk is an elected official who is responsible for the preservation and safekeeping of the Town’s official records and documents as well as the official keeper of the City Seal.

The Connecticut General Statutes define the duties and function of the Town Clerk. All land records, deeds, mortgages, liens, assignments, survey maps are indexed, scanned and safeguarded on site in our vault and are obtainable through electronic searches or through volume searches. Indexes are available via the City website.

In addition, the Town Clerk maintains a listing of the Justice of the Peace, swears in Notary Publics, maintains meeting records of Boards and Commissions, Trade Names, and Veteran Discharges. The Town Clerk is responsible for the execution of Absentee Ballots and for the registration of local candidates and political campaign committees. Dog and fishing licenses are issued through this office.

The Town Clerk serves as the Town’s Registrar of Vital Statistics. All births, marriages, civil unions or deaths which occur in the City of Danbury are recorded and placed on file in our vault.

Our experienced staff has many years of service to the Town Clerk’s Office and are committed to serving the needs of our residents. Considered one of the busiest offices in the State of Connecticut, we continue to enhance the functionality of our office, making it more user-friendly and efficient environment.

OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

The Office has made a major system upgrade to enhance our technology. The Backfile Project was completed with the scanning of 476 books or 384,135 pages. Previously, our electronic records went back 30 years, but now our records go back 66 years.

We continue to update our vault shelving allowing us to move those volumes in another space to our Town Clerk vault and to better preserve our old land record volumes as we increase the space needed for future volumes.

The processing of absentee ballots was upgraded this year.

The Office completed its consolidation, preservation, and storage of Danbury’s maps.

During the course of the year, we recorded 18,390 land record documents, processed 16,045 birth certificates, marriage licenses, burial permits and death certificates.
