Why are my taxes so high?
Although the Tax Collector’s Office collects the taxes, the amount due is based on the assessment of the property. If you feel that your assessment is incorrect you will need to contact the Tax Assessor’s Office.

I have changed my address at the Post Office, why is my bill being sent to the old address?
Real Estate and Personal Property (Businesses) addresses must be changed in writing and directed to the Tax Assessor’s Office.
Motor Vehicle addresses are taken from the actual Department of Motor Vehicle registration, if you have not changed the address on the registration it will not be corrected until this is done.

Why didn’t I receive a receipt for my last payment?
Receipts are sent only if you include a self addressed stamped envelope.

How much interest will be charged if I am late paying my tax bill or water and sewer bill? By state law, once a bill is considered delinquent, the rate of interest charged is 18% per year (or 1.5% per month) from the time the bill becomes due and payable (the date of the bill). Interest accrues on the first day of each month with the minimum interest charge being $2.00.

Can I pay my taxes online?  Currently, the City of Danbury enables residents to pay taxes online through our eDanbury services page.
