About Us: 

The Tax Collector’s Office is a division of the City of Danbury Finance Department. The Tax Collector’s duties and responsibilities are guided by the State of Connecticut General Statutes and the City of Danbury Ordinances.

Each year, the Tax Collector annually mails approximately 200,000 tax and utility bills and notices.  When the taxpayers come to the payment window, they are greeted by our friendly cashiers who will process their payments and assist them with general questions. Taxpayers requiring research or other information are directed into our office where an Account Clerk will have the taxpayer sit with them at their desk, and review their needs. The office takes pride in making these interactions as efficient, educational and customer friendly as possible.

Our Accomplishments:

On December 1, 2013, the office implemented a new property tax software system which will allow the office to post “real time” payments to accounts and interface with the City’s financial system. We can produce bills, notices, and other documents much easier and more efficiently than before. The new software is more user friendly to title searchers and will allow taxpayers to view their current tax information online at their convenience.  Soon, the flexible online payment option for taxpayers will also include the utility and assessment billing.

The department continues to utilize a “meet and greet” approach to taxpayers during our busy seasons. This added service, along with other changes, have allowed us to keep the payment line moving and get taxpayer issues resolved more quickly.  Taxpayers have frequently complimented this customer oriented approach and the efficiencies it creates.
